Hey everybody, nice to see you could make it for another installment of “Nall In The Mix”. For you first timers, Hello, my name is Steve Nall. I am the main engineer/instructor at LIRCo, and I will be your guide for this audio adventure. Now that the formalities are out of the way, let’s jump right in and see what’s been happening around the halls of LIRCo!!
In the Studio, house engineer/producer Erin Cheeks finished mixing of local Contemporary Christian artist Lauren Mink’s debut CD and immediately began work on Lauren’s first secular release! It has more of a “new country” sound than the other project, which has more of a pop/rock vibe going on. Erin has 4 or 5 songs musically completed so far, and Lauren has been laying the vocal tracks to those for the past few weeks. Both cds sound great and I can’t wait to hear the finished product!

Local favorites Partly Cloudy are slowly inching closer to completion of their sophomore release, which is still untitled. The band has completed all the music and lead vocals, and only has a few backing vocals to finish before yours truly begins the final mixes. The band and I are hoping to have the project done by the end of November, so I’ll keep you informed about that in the weeks to come.
Ted Turner’s Cartoon Network also stopped in again to record some voice-over work for upcoming episodes of their latest animated show “12 Ounce Mouse”. Once again, Scott Luallen, known mainly for his work in local punk-a-billy legends Nine Pound Hammer handled the voice duties and the session went great! Just hearing him read the script was hilarious, and I can’t wait for the show to hit the air! Check the Cartoon Network’s late night “Adult Swim” for times when you can catch The Mouse!
Also this month, outside producer James Bailey was back with rapper Jerome Jones to continue production on his upcoming release. Running the boards is former student turned instructor and resident beatmeister Deshawn “Big Time” Steele.
I’d like to take time out now to congratulate a host of students who have graduated the Recording School recently. The newly minted audio professionals I speak of are none other than… Patrick Logsdon, Billy Landrum, Matt Nall, Diane Austin, Brad Smith, Alex Phillips, Jake (the Rev) McArdle, Rico Blanton, Greg Anderson, and Chris Mullins. Congratulations to all of you! Now get out there and record some hits!!
Before we get out of here, I’d like to officially welcome two new additions to the LIRCo family. Former students Deshawn Steele and Bruce Naude have been brought in as our new in-house assistants/engineers and as soon as we can get ‘em up to speed, they’re going to start helping with the recording school.
This will come in handy in the coming months as the new students keep rolling in, so come on down and check out the School and some killer sessions! Just give us a call at 859-335-8440 (if you’re local) or TOLL FREE at 877-335-8440 to set it up, so we can give you the ultimate LIRCo experience. That’s all I’ve got for now. Check back next
time when I’ll continue to give you the inside track all the happenings here at Long Island .
